History of Orpheum Theatre Phoenix

The Orpheum Theatre was originally opened in 1929 as part of the vaudeville circuit and is the last remaining example of Spanish Baroque Revival architecture in Phoenix. Designed by architects Lescher & Mahoney, the building features intricate murals, ornate balconies, and a whimsical, cloud-painted ceiling.

After falling into disrepair in the 1970s, the theater was purchased and lovingly restored by the City of Phoenix, reopening in 1997. Today, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a cultural beacon in Arizona’s capital city.
